What are console tables used for?
One of the best things about a solid wood console table is its versatility. Whether your entryway is looking a little drab or you’re in search of some extra hallway storage, a console table always does the trick.
An entryway console table is the best way to make a first impression when welcoming guests into your home. Use your entryway table as a drop zone for keys, add a shoe rack underneath, and jazz it up with your favorite lamp, plants, and knick-knacks, and you’ve instantly added a touch of functionality and personal style to your space.
In need of a living room upgrade? Adding a sofa table behind your couch is a quick and easy way to take it to the next level. Not only can you decorate it with your favorite lamp, fresh flowers, and other personal touches, but you can also store decorative ottomans underneath for extra storage and makeshift seating when you’re hosting guests.
And, of course, if you have a blank wall in desperate need of a makeover, you can always add a console table. Adding a hallway table can be the difference of a space looking just okay and truly amazing. Plus, a console table with storage can take advantage of unutilized space and provide storage for things you didn’t think you had space for. There’s truly nowhere in your home you can’t upgrade with one of these versatile tables.
How long should a console table be?
The right console table length really depends on how you plan on using it. If you’re planning on putting your console table behind the couch, it should be about two-thirds the length of your couch. For a loveseat, a small console table like our 46-inch console table should do the trick, while larger sectional couches may require a larger size like our 66-inch console table.
The right length for a foyer table simply depends on the size of your space. Make sure to measure your space before deciding on a table size, leaving extra space around it for easy movement and any clutter that may accumulate (hey, it happens).
Whether you’re looking for a narrow console table for your shoebox apartment or a long console table to fill that empty wall you’ve never known what to do with, Plank+Beam has you covered. From modern console tables to more traditional styles, we offer durable pieces that fit any space, any décor, and any lifestyle.
Can my console table be higher than my sofa?
Yes, your console table can be slightly taller than your sofa. However, ideally, your table shouldn’t be more than an inch or so higher than the top of your sofa’s backrest. A console table that’s too much taller than your sofa can overwhelm your space. Plank+Beam console tables each stand at 32 inches tall, so a couch with a backrest height of 31 to 32 inches would likely be the most natural fit.
